Colombia and Ecuador seek to end lawsuit over fumigations
Finally the two Amazonian countries have reached a friendly agreement that puts an end on the trial that Quito filed in 2008 before the International Court in The Hague, over fumigations that Colombia made on the common border.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, said in a statement that both countries “have come to an agreement based on the application of international instruments that are recognized by the two countries.”
“The Colombian government is satisfied to reach a solution with its Ecuadorian pair”, drafted the statement.
In addition, the agreement provides economic compensation to Ecuador from Colombia, which will be designed to promote social and economic development of the border areas. In addition, coordination between the two countries to fight drug trafficking, was also reinforced.

In 2008, Ecuador filed a case against Colombia over illegal fumigations on Ecuadorian soil.
