Colombia investigates whether there was a recruiter for the murder of Fernando Villavicencio
After the crime of Fernando Villavicencio, Colombia has begun its investigations into the arrest of the six men arrested as suspects in the crime. They are Colombians. And, at noon on August 15, 2023, the journalist from the CableNoticias network, David Parra, spoke for Noticias 7, from Ecuador TV, about the latest details of the investigation in the neighboring country.

Suspects of the crime.
Last Friday, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, held a call with President Guillermo Lasso. There was a provision to help the investigation that is also carried out by the Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office. Apparently, the subjects involved are from Cali and lived in nearby neighborhoods, said the journalist.
Parra clarified that the Colombian authorities have been hermetic with the information that has been generated so far. However, it is known that there is a trace of the judicial walk. Based on that, it has been established that they lived in nearby neighborhoods. In addition, the possibility that they shared a prison in Colombia or if they met directly in Ecuador is being investigated.
But the key piece of information is the possibility that there is a recruiter who came to Colombia to get these men and bring them to the country. The suspects who were detained and remain in Ecuador have criminal records and are being investigated if they have links to irregular groups such as the FARC, ELN or if they belong to urban gangs. The journalist also spoke about his possible link with the Clan del Golfo.
To establish this connection, in Colombia it aims to investigate the weapons used. With this, according to Parra, a link could be established with one of the criminal gangs of the neighboring country.
Since last Saturday, an FBI commission has been in Ecuador. That happened after last week, the Ecuadorian President requested that collaboration. Yesterday, Monday August 14, that commission met with the authorities of the Prosecutor’s Office behind closed doors.
Fernando Villavicencio was a candidate for the Presidency of Ecuador. On August 9, when he was leaving a rally in the north of Quito, he was assassinated. After that, the authorities apprehended six people. The Police were in charge of reporting that they were Colombian citizens.
