Colombian Radios Join to initiative In Pro of El Universo

Emilio Palacio‘s article “No a las mentiras” (No More Lies) was the most read article yesterday in the Colombian press, it was also published by newspapers of the Group of Newspapers of America (GDA) in protest against the “disproportionate sanctions” imposed to El Universo Daily.

More than 30 members of the National Newspaper Association of Colombia (Andiarios) are protesting, and radios decided to join the iniciative. W station, from Caracol, urged listeners to express their opinion on El Universo case through the question: Will the media pressure yield Rafael Correa in his conflict with El Universo?.

Listeners took the microphone to deliver their rejection towards the Ecuadorian president, who was called a ‘bully’, ‘abuser of power’ and ‘dictator’. Lawyers, analysts, journalists, sociologists and humanists were also interviewed by radio reporters.

The newspapers also published opinions of its reader, at 14:00 over 80 people had written in the online edition of El Tiempo on the situation of the press in Ecuador.
