The quinoa and chia seeds have become the main source for the Kunachia Consortium, a Kichwa name that in Spanish means “To Give.” Carlos Gutierrez, general manager, explained that these seeds were used by the ancestors as energy sources since they provided vigor to the Incas for long walks.
“Together with Santiago Stacey (co-founder), who lives in Canada, we saw that there was no an identity of the brand in Ecuador and in other countries these seed are consumed by being natural. It was when we started to channel the idea of offering something national to the world with its own identity. the work was a ant work, it was difficult at the beginning and now we are growing slowly,” said the manager.
Kunachia has two years and a packing plant with advanced technology, located in the Industrial Park of Ambato, in Tungurahua, was recently opened. They have invested $ 400,000 in the construction of the plant.
