Comptroller notifies correa by public debt examination
Ecuadornews:
Comptroller Pablo Celi mentioned Monday that the ex-Authorities of the Ministry of Finance and the former President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, have already been notified of a special examination of the legality, sources and uses of internal and external public debt, between January 2012 and May 2017. This decision was made after four months of work.
Celi indicated that this audit process will be carried out as of January 8, 2018, and for the month of April 2018 the results of the evaluation are expected.
In the audit 11 “veedores” related to the financial field will participate, the legal and academic field informed Celi. They are: Patricio Alarcón, Marcelo Merlo, Ana Abril, Ramiro Crespo, Eduardo Valencia, Pablo Dávalos, Alfredo Corral, Roberto Aspiazu, Magdalena Barreiro, León Roldos and Mariana Yépez.
The “veedores” have been called to monitor the transparency of the special examinations opened by the Comptroller General of the State to the internal and external public debt contracted under Correa’s mandate from 2012 to 2017.
The controller stressed that public control must be carried out with citizen participation. “This is a fundamental principle of a democracy of representation.”
“Public control with citizen participation contributes to the necessary transparency and trust in public action, fundamental for the legitimacy of state action,” Celi added. (I)
