Comptroller shall inspect the heritage of the Assembly members
Members of the Council of Legislative Administration (CAL) asked the Comptroller general of the State, Carlos Pólit, that the results of the special examination to heritage statements of the 137 assemblymen are ready within a maximum period of 40 days.
The legislature Gabriela Rivadeneira, made the order yesterday with regard to the case of an alleged crime of bribery in the hands of a legislator’s initials M.E.G., representative of Esmeraldas by the Alianza País movement holder.
The document was based on article 83, paragraph 8, of the Constitution, which refers t that are duties and responsibilities of the Ecuadorian people “to manage public assets honestly and with unconditional adherence to the law, denounce and combat corruption”.
In addition, it was considered the article 231 of the Constitution on the presentation of a patrimonial affidavit that “will include assets and liabilities to public servants at the start and end of the management, and the authorization that, if is necessary, of lift the secrecy of bank accounts”.
To this she added that Parliament will follow up to cases that were former by Assembly members of past legislative periods and that have been presented by the General Comptroller of the State. In this regard, the Attorney General will have to answer on the results of investigations to these cases.
