Coronavirus in Ecuador: 1,382 positive cases and 34 deaths
The positive cases for coronavirus in Ecuado r total 1,382; the deceased, 34. The head of the Risk Management Service , Alexandra Ocles, reported this on the morning of Thursday, March 26, 2020, in a new digital link. He added that 1,778 suspected cases are registered and that at least 1,676 cases have been ruled out.
This added that the age group with the highest number of infections belong to the age range of 20 to 49 years, with 800 cases , of the total reported. Ocles stressed that only 9% of infections have required hospitalization, but that of the patients who have been admitted, 43% have a poor prognosis.
Most of the cases that have required hospitalization correspond to people between 49 and 72 years old, an age range that has also been visible in other countries affected by the coronavirus. The remaining positive cases are treated through home quarantine.
Santiago Tarapués, national director of Risk management of the Ministry of Public Health insisted that, despite the complaints circulating on social networks, the national health system is not collapsed, and that there is sufficient evidence of the coronavirus to cover the demand.
“We have a large volume of calls to 171. The current complexity is obviously in Guayaquil, where demand has grown exponentially, however we could not speak of the health system being saturated. The function of 171 is to carry out a triage , to determine if there is a respiratory deficiency and if an ambulance is necessary. We can still respond and ensure patient care, “he stressed.
Ocles asked citizens to inform themselves through official channels and not to be suspicious of the figures that are updated daily regarding the contagion rate.
“The government is not interested in lying about the numbers. The figures given are those that are reported to the health system from the different public and private hospital homes. Those people who are speculating on a very sensitive issue are causing misinformation. ”
