Hendrix Genetics, in partnership with Nutreco and Ecuacultivos, will invest in Ecuador to establish a state-of-the-art shrimp laboratory.
The Macrobio laboratory will develop a world-class shrimp breeding program and deliver post-larvae of Pacific white shrimp to Ecuadorian aquaculturists. It is located in the western region of the country and currently employs about 50 people.
Antoon van den Berg, CEO of Hendrix Genetics, said the Kona Bay shrimp breeding program, “is an important development to access one of the major markets.”
Rob Koremans, CEO of Nutreco, explained that the strategy is to invest in innovative projects that support the sustainable growth of the market.
The Pacific white shrimp is one of the most important aquatic species produced in Ecuador, which positions our country as the third largest producer after China and India. (I)
