Correa Forgives But Does not Forget

The Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, gave a speech in an open letter to the country. His declaration was made in Palacio de Carondelet in the capital of Quito. The conference started with some delays. However, the president started by saying “I never wanted this trial, like any other.”

Correa proceeded to recall all the events that led to case El Universo. The president spoke about the false information given to delay the case and to the attacks of the media. Correa also recalled that El Universo newspaper had the opportunity to correct the article, but they never did it.

Near the end of his speech, the Ecuadorian leader said that now the country is aware that the media tried to delay the process. Finally the Ecuadorian President said that after a lot of thinking and talking with friends and family, he decided to forgive the sentence against El Universo and the Big Brother journalists. Correa said “There is forgiveness but it will not be forgotten” (AV)
