Corruption cases related to Odebrecht are investigated in other countries
Posted On 16 Jan 2017
In Colombia, for example, justice authorities reported yesterday that they captured former senator Otto Nicolas Bula Bula, accused of receiving $ 4.6 million from Odebrecht to secure a contract for the construction of the Ocaña-Gamarra road to the concessionaire Ruta del Sol, a consortium owned by the construction company.
This is the second arrest in that country as part of its investigations. Last week, the Attorney General’s Office captured Gabriel Garcia, accused of receiving a $ 6.5 million bribe, taking advantage of his position as director of an agency that manages the highway concessions and later as Deputy Minister of Transportation in the government of Alvaro Uribe.
In the Dominican Republic, the Attorney General´s office investigates businessman Angel Rondon, who would have received $ 92 million between 2001 and 2014.
Authorities seek to determine if he used the money in bribes to Dominican officials. The state agency asked Rondon to provide documents on that management.
In Peru, likewise, the Anti-Corruption Office requested the testimony of the last three presidents and 72 other people within the investigation.
Thursday, the president of the Council of Legal Defense of the State, Julia Principe, said that in addition to the statements of Alejandro Toledo, Alan Garcia, and Ollanta Humala, who ruled between 2001 and 2016, she also asked the Attorney General´s Office to summon the owner of the company, Marcelo Odebrecht, and Jorge Barata, the manager in Peru.
