Cotopaxi volcano awakens after 125 years
On Sunday morning the Cotopaxi volcano, threw two steam emissions that were observed in the south east of Quito. The Geophysical Institute of the Polytechnical School ratified the events in a statement issued shortly before 17:00 of Sunday.
The first steam emission reached a height of 500 meters above the crater, followed by another that reached a kilometer above the crater towards the Chillos Valley, the statement said.
The same adds that on Saturday, a rumble was felt in the mountains around 15h00, a sulfur odor was perceived from 5,300 meters high and it was perceived a little stronger 5,700 meters.
In terms of seismicity, in the last 24 hours 18 long period events, 97 episodes of tremor, and three volcano-tectonic events were revorded, in addition to gas and ash observations.
