The correísmo will postulate Marcela Holguín as a replacement for Virgilio Saquicela. While among the independents there is talk of Daniel Noboa.
While the Oversight Commission advances in the drafting of the report on the impeachment process against President Guillermo Lasso, the assembly members focus on the negotiations for the replacement of the authorities of the Assembly.
This May 14, 2023 marks two years of the current legislative period. Therefore, legislators must decide whether to change the presidency and vice-presidencies of the Assembly.
The current president, Virgilio Saquicela, was placed in office by the opposition majority, made up of the Union for Hope (UNES), the Social Christian Party (PSC) and part of the Democratic Left (ID) and Pachakutik.
However, the numbers of that majority have been changing during the impeachment process and the negotiations are still far from reaching an agreement. But there is already talk of names that the benches will propose at least for the presidency of the assembly.
UNES nominate Marcela Holguín, current, first vice president of the Assembly. Gisela Garzon assured that this will be her proposal since Correísmo has the largest bench.
While Daniel Noboa, who acts as an independent, maintained that the assembly members who are not affiliated with the benches will support his name.
On the other hand, the ID talks about the possibility of running for Wilma Andrade or Yeseña Guamaní .
The talks will resume over the next week, while the report of the Oversight Commission is in the process of being drafted, which should recommend or not the dismissal of President Lasso.
