Defense of El Universo Newspaper will Insist in Prison for Judge Paredes
The defense of El Universo Newspaper insists the prosecution to call former judge Monica Encalada and former coach of the Judicial Council, Jaime Martinez, to testify as part of the inquiry into an alleged corruption in the ruling against the newspaper.
Public statements from both of them have disproved the version given by the former judge Juan Paredes to the prosecution, on December 15.
He said a ‘flash drive’, which Encalada gave him to process documents, helped him to quickly write and notify the decision in 24 hours.
In a video released by the former judge Encalada, Paredes mentions the existance of another supposedly ‘flash drive’ with Word documents, which contained El Universo Newspaper judgement.
According to Encalada, the judge said it was Gutenberg Vera,President Rafael Correa’s attorney, who made the ruling.
Both Encalada and Martinez have ensured that digital files were in PDF format, not Word. (ARL)
