Diario El Universo Agrees to Amend; the Proposal was Rejected

Daily El Universo, its directors and former opinion editor, Emilio Palacio, announced their decision to agree with the public amend order that the president has given, regarding the opinion column “No to lies.”

In a letter signed by the representatives of El Universo, submitted to the Provincial Court of Justice of Guayas, they ask Correa, in order to fully satisfy his demand, to give them the amendment text he wants to publish, to choose the date and place in which he wants it to be published.

With the amendment text El Universo accepted the warning as it is the only way “to avoid the bankruptcy of the company,” as expressed in public arenas by the president himself.

Nicolas Perez, one of the directors of the media, said through his Twitter account that the President’s lawyer said there is no possibility of reconciliation. Later, his brother Carlos Perez told reporters that the proposed amendment was not accepted.
