Difficulties persist for importers by Resolution 116
Representatives of importing companies have stated that the lack of laboratories that issue the certificates required for products like baby milk formulas, cosmetics and ceramics to enter the country, are still a problem.
After the Committee of Foreign Trade (Comex,) approved the new regulations set forth in Resolution 116, the importers have stated on several occasions the difficulty to meet the standards.
Henry Kronfle, president of the Ecuadorian Business Committee, expressed through a letter sent to the Minister of Industry and Productivity, Ramiro Gonzalez, the difficulty in getting the certificates.
Another problem is the lack of verifiers validated by the Ecuadorian Accreditation Organization, which is a process of at least ten steps for the issue of certificates.
Regarding the issue, the minister Gonzalez informed that he has not order the cancellation of imports, only the “rules have to be met.” Similarly, he added that there are domestic products which comply with international standards unlike the imported.
