“Arpón de Neptuno” is the name of the alleged transnational drug trafficking network that was dismantled yesterday in several raids in five countries, including Ecuador.
The National Police reported yesterday that there are 14 detainees of that alleged organization in 14 raids in the cities of Guayaquil, Esmeraldas, Quito, Santo Domingo and Babahoyo. Eight of them have Ecuadorian nationality. All of them were prosecuted for the alleged crime of organized crime.
In addition, there were seized 106 kilos of marijuana and 3,400 liters of sulfuric acid, said General Carlos Alulema, national director of the Anti-narcotics Unit.
The Police informed that in this operation the Police of Ecuador, the Colombian Police, the National Secretariat of Defense of Mexico and the Department of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala and Costa Rica intervened, among others, for the fight against drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, in microtrafficking operations, Zone 8 antinarcotics agents raided homes and managed to capture 15 people, one of them with an electronic device. They are investigated for the alleged crime of micro-trafficking.
There were 12 raids on homes in the La Florida, Pascuales, Nueva Prosperina, Portete and Durán sectors.
There, 408.2 grams of cocaine, 96.2 grams of marijuana and 11.4 grams of heroin were confiscated, along with cash and 10 cell phones.
Colonel Edwin Noguera, Chief of Counter-Narcotics of Zone 8, said that the detainee with an electronic device allegedly kept and also sold it in Durán.
And as in this case, there are eight other detainees with electronic devices in 2018 by agents of that unit of the National Police.
“These people have been arrested in the homes or in the places where they sell the drug. They are immediately arrested and put back on the orders of the competent authorities, “Noguera said.
Colonel Noguera added that so far in 2018, 15.8 tons of drugs have been seized, including drug trafficking and micro trafficking operations.
Only in the micro-traffic the figure of two tons is registered, which surpasses that of previous years, assured Noguera. (I)
