The railway, its two boardwalks and its traditional fried pork are some of the tourist attractions that Duran is planning to use to promote the tourism. Today, Eloy Alfaro, as the canton was christened, celebrates 28 years of political emancipation.
Duran enjoys an area of 2,179 acres of reserve as it is the Santay Island, declared one of the major Ramsar Wetlands and within the city is located the railway station, making its tours on weekends. In addition there are the piers Alfredo Palacio, Roberto Gilbert Elizalde and María Piedad; the Guillermo Davis Park and the sanctuary of the divine child.
Fried pork is one of the typical dishes. The most frequented venues are located opposite to the boardwalk, Alfredo Palacio.”We try to keep the flavor”, said Jose Bravo Alarcon, who is in charge of the restaurant Chimborazo that his grandfather Antonio Broncano started half a century ago.
Two weeks ago, the company Adventure Ecuador resumed the river tours. Two boats travel seven times a day trough the Guayas River to meet the route Durán-Guayaquil-Durán. The municipality of Durán supports the proposal of Adventure Ecuador. “We are giving facilities to those who want to invest,” said Rosa Navarrete, municipal Tourism Director.
Because of its cantonization, there will be a horse parade which will start from the Citadel, Ana Maria Olmedo and will arrive to the downtown. The solemn session will be held at 12:30 in the Convention Center, closing the celebration with a show to be held at the exterior of the shopping centre El Tren.
