Earthquake in China and Argentina
At least 89 people died on Monday in two earthquakes in a mountainous region with difficult access in the chinese province of Gansu, located in the Northwest of the country, indicated the authorities; while, southwest of the town of Las Heras, North of the Argentinean province of Mendoza, an earthquake of 5.4 magnitude caused serious damages during the early hours of today.
Geological surveillance of the United States (USGS) service, reported that the quake in South America had its hypocenter 21.1 kilometers deep and 81 kilometers southwest of Las Heras. Human casualties or material damages have not been reported so far.
At the same time, Chile was also affected by a 4.8-magnitude earthquake. Its epicenter was recorded 44 kms away of the commune of Talcahuano, in the Pacific Ocean, the USGS reported.
Regarding China’s earthquake, in addition to those killed, some 600 people were injured, a number not defined are missing and around 21.000 buildings were affected.
