Ecuador achieves Guinness record in recycling
Ralph Hannah, Latin American representative of Guinness World Records, said Ecuador set a new record for this book, due to the collecting of 1.559.0002 plastic bottles for recycling, in a period of fifteen days.
Hannah explains that this record considered the amount, the time of collection and the quality of the over 1.5 million plastic collected bottles, which weigh 39,627 kilos.
The bottles are now grouped at La Carolina Park in Quito, where the World Environment Summit for Children (CIMA Kids) is being held, in order to provide environmental awareness to children in Ecuador.
The bottles were collected by 118 schools in the Ecuadorian capital and have a recycled material value of $ 31.000. From that amount, $6000 will go to recycling organizations and $ 25.000 will be donated to the Yasuni-ITT.
