Ecuador and the United States sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen peace and security
The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, reported that Ecuador and the United States signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen the capacities of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces, in their fight to combat threats to security and peace.
“As part of the cooperation ties that we maintain and our commitment to work together against organized crime (…) This will allow us to strengthen the capacities of the Armed Forces for the benefit of the security of all Ecuadorians,” the Head of State emphasized in a publication.
Within the Bilateral Action Plan, which reaffirms the promotion mechanisms between the Ecuadorian and US military forces, the Department of Defense and the Department of State of the United States participate together with the Ministry of Defense of Ecuador, entities that signed the document.
The memorandum provides for cooperation between the two countries for the exchange of information to combat armed groups and drug trafficking; the strengthening of the capacities of the Armed Forces of Ecuador; the training and training of the military personnel of the two nations; and, the acquisition of resources to strengthen the defense of the borders and combat drug trafficking and its associated crimes.
The cooperation process will have results in the medium and long terms, in a period of seven years.
