Ecuador lost to Peru 1-0 but continues in the run towards Brazil 2014
On the date 13 of the 2014 South American World Cup, visitors gained points except Ecuador, who lost to Peru in Lima, where it did not lose since 1977.
Colombia draw with Argentina, Chile won 2-1 to Paraguay, and Venezuela tied to 1 with Bolivia.
With this result, the tricolor fell from second to third position in the standings with 20 points, same as Colombia. The Ecuadorian undefeated streak in the Peruvian capital for qualifying games (in the four previous games it had two win and had two draws), was interrupted with this defeat.
However, Ecuador maintains itself in the direct qualification for the Brazil World Cup 2014 and next Tuesday it will play against Argentina in Quito in a game that if won, would bring them to the brink of classification.
From the start of the meeting the Peruvians were incisive, a performance that was constant until the last minutes. A dangerous quartet formed by Juan Vargas, Jefferson Farfan, Paolo Guerrero and Claudio Pizarro scored the only goal in the 11th minute.
Despite the loss, the Tricolor coach Reinaldo Rueda, expressed: “I think it was an intense game. We were imprecise once and that cost us the game. In the first and second half we had order and aggressiveness.”
