Ecuador rejects North Korea nuclear test and fears a military escalation

Thursday, the Ecuadorian government expressed its rejection of North Korea’s nuclear test on September 3 and its concern about “the arms race escalation that would be happening in the Korean peninsula.”
“The Government of Ecuador expresses its rejection of the announcement made by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on September 3 of this year of a new nuclear test,” said an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The report recalls that the essay “is a violation of international standards on the prohibition, elimination and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons,” and “constitutes a threat to international peace and security.”
Ecuador also reiterates its “condemnation” of the development and use of weapons of mass destruction and in this regard, emphasized its support for the adoption of the Nuclear Weapons Prohibition Treaty. (I)
