Galápagos also gained international recognition as the Leading Beach Destination of South America.
The awards ceremony was held on Saturday at the Palacio de Cristal. On Saturday, the Palacio de Cristal became the venue for the twenty-fifth edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA), South America edition.
In the event, Ecuador participated with 38 nominations and won 25. The Ecuadorian capital won three awards, among them the Leader of South America in Meetings and Conferences 2018. Similarly, the Mariscal Sucre air terminal was also listed as the Leading Airport of South America.
The main port won four prizes: South America’s Leading Business Travel Destination 2018, Leading Destination of Festivals and Events of South America 2018, Leading Tourism Municipality of South America 2018 and the Wyndham Hotel as South American Leader City Hotel 2018.
Gloria Gallardo, of the Municipal Tourism Company of Guayaquil, highlighted the importance of the event in the city for the contribution to local and national tourism. She argued that the city is the most visited by national and international tourists in the country.
The Athens of Ecuador reached the Leading Destination Award for Short Holidays. Its mayor, Marcelo Cabrera, invited followers of his Twitter account to share images of the city: “With the immense joy that #Cuenca won, for the second year in a row, the award in the @WTravelAwards as Best Short Vacation Destination from South America, we join the campaign #EstaVaPorVosCuenca (ThisOneIsForYouCuenca) share your photos of our beautiful city, “he wrote.
