Ecuador will meet with the European Union in July
Peter Schwaiger, the person in charge d’affaires of the EU delegation to Ecuador, reported that on July 8 and 9 a meeting will carry out in Brussels with the two technical teams negotiators Ecuador and the European Union (EU).
The purpose of this meeting is to clarify open questions that were not answered last year and to see the path that Ecuador will take.
“Based on this, and I hope it does, a scheme to enter formal negotiations could be defined during the second half of the year,” said Schwaiger.
The negotiations for a trade agreement between Ecuador and the EU were suspended for discussing sensitive issues where there were no agreements. However, a few weeks ago, the Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, expressed his interest in resuming the negotiations and continue the rounds to the signing of a trade agreement.
