Ecuadorian Ambassador Asked to Censor “El Gran Hermano” Book
The book called “El Gran Hermano” (“Big Brother”) written by Ecuadorian journalists Christian Zurita and Juan Carlos Calderon, was banned in the 37th International Book Fair of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Ambassador of Ecuador in Argentina, Wellington Sandoval, asked to an agent from the Ecuadorian Chamber to remove “El Gran Hermano” book from the stand of the fair.
Paradiso Editores (el Gran Hermano editorial) asserted that there is no reason to demand the withdrawal of the book because the American Convention of Human Rights and the Constitution of Ecuador ensure the free circulation of books and freedom of expression.
On the other hand, Fabian Luzuriaga, president of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Books, rejected Sandoval’s petition and instructed the Ecuadorian representative to keep on display the book and then request to the Ecuadorian Ambassador to deliver a written request on the issue.
