Ecuadorian banana reaches new destinations

According to the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE), Turkey, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Algeria have purchased more Ecuadorian bananas in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period in previous years, becoming the top destinations for the national product.

However, the data also reveal that other countries such as Italy, Belgium, Ukraine, Serbia and Montenegro have reduced imports, backing their figures to the same of the first half of 2012.

Ecuador received $ 1,139 million over banana exports in the first half of 2013, 4.8% more than in the same period of 2012. Turkey was the country that increased its purchase of Ecuadorian bananas the most, from $ 39.8 million to $ 106.71 million in the same period (168% more). Turkey distributes the fruit to other Middle Eastern countries.
