Ecuadorian doctors demand the reinstatement of the professionals
In Quito, dozens of doctors, workers and students with their white aprons, gathered yesterday at the Independencia Square to demand the reinstatement of the professionals who were forced to resign.
Carlos Figueroa, secretary of the Ecuadorian Medical Federation, denounced “the outrage that the government is committing against the country’s physicians.” He spoke of a lack of specialist care in hospital units as a result of the separation of personnel.
According to Figueroa, workers are readying protective actions and criminal complaints against the Ministers of Health, David Chiriboga and Industrial Relations, Richard Espinoza.
Eduardo Espinoza, president of the Federation of Medical Students said: “We cannot have practical classes because 95% of physicians are professors who were fired from the State University.”
In Guayaquil, doctors, nurses and the staff of public hospitals yesterday held a sit in the Rocafuerte Square .
