Ecuadorian President expects couples to save money in order to use maternity leave license
The president Rafael Correa congratulated yesterday his assemblymen for improving its proposed license extension for newborn care in the draft Law on the Promotion of Youth Work, Employment Protection and Unemployment Insurance and did not announce veto the document child.
He acknowledged that one of the “greatest failures has been the fight against malnutrition” and was in favor that parents be included in the license extension for child care.
The project proposes that parents eligible for an optional, voluntary and unpaid leave for up to twelve months: “We want to encourage breastfeeding, the mother who wants, after three months of paid maternity leave, to be eligible to nine additional months’ leave without salary… I hope we get some point to a real family planning where we can responsibly care for our .” (I)
