Egypt Faces New Power Struggle
Posted On 10 Jul 2012
This Tuesday the Egypt’s Islamist-dominated parliament started their meeting in defiance of orders that disbanded the chamber and brought the Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi into conflict with both the powerful military and the high court.
The session was short, lasting no more than five minutes, this suggests that the lawmakers looked for a more symbolic stance rather than a full-scale fighting against rulings that invalidated the chamber due to irregularities in Egypt’s first elections since the fall of Hosni Mubarak 17 months ago.
Meanwhile Morsi is facing a power struggle with the military chiefs, who vowed to uphold the judicial ruling that dissolved the parliament last month. (AV)
