El Universo Case: Ecuador Will Attend Hearing With IACHR
Posted On 27 Feb 2012
Ecuador will attend the hearing called by Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR) to deal with the sentence of El Universo case. Chancellor Ricardo Patiño, added that the Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa “requested that I participate and attend this meeting.”
Patiño did not dismiss the possibility that Correa attend the hearing of the IACHR for March 28. Last Wednesday, February 22, IACHR asked the Ecuadorian government to use precautionary measures in order to temporarily suspend the sentence, hence ensuring the right of free speech.
Afterwards IACHR called for a hearing in their main branch in Washington, United States, so that both parties can defend their arguments. (AV)
