Election Gag on the Press Came Into Force

The main assembly of the Constitutional Court (CC), diligently decided to lift the precautionary measures held against three articles of the Reformatory Law to the Electoral Law (Code of Democracy).

President of the Constitutional Court, Patricio Pazmiño, confirmed that since yesterday the “election gag“, journalism limitation at election time, came into validity.

It also confirmed the immediate implementation of the D’Hondt method for allocating seats in multi-member lists of candidates.

The D’Hondt system is an electoral formula created by Victor d’Hondt, that allows to obtain the number of elected positions assigned to the candidacies, in proportion to the votes obtained.

This mathematical calculation favors groups with major electoral weight. (MZ)
