Electronic money plan pilot will start with 600 customers
The Financial Regulatory Board approved on November 6 the costs of electronic money operations, while the pilot plan of the system is already underway.
The plan will serve to measure the effectiveness of the technology platform developed by the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE for its Spanish acronym) and, if necessary, make adjustments to the system, which will begin operations in the third week of December.
Electronic currency is a medium for voluntary payment using the cell phone to buy goods or pay for services. The backup mean is in American dollars: if a person has $ 1, he may change it by its equal in electronic.
In the pilot plan, which will last until the end of November, various stakeholders, including officials, 600 customers and 20 private companies are involved, said the BCE Manager Mateo Villalba .
