Emergency State Could be Extended due to Rain Damage
The constant raining, although these were less abundant in March, opens the possibility that the Government extends state of emergency, actually active since last March 8, for a period of 60 days, in seven provinces that have been most affected by winter.
This possibility arose in a meeting last Thursday in Babahoyo (Los Rios), between the national secretary of Risk Management, Maria del Pilar Cornejo, with the governors or representatives of affected provinces: Guayas, Los Rios, Azuay, Loja, Esmeraldas, Manabi and El Oro.
Meanwhile, members of the National Committee for the Regional Study of El Niño Phenomena (ERFEN), said Thursday that precipitation will continue in the center and inside the coastal region with less intensity and frequency in relation to the last weeks of March. (ARL)
