Emilio Palacio rejected the Presidents’ Lawsue
Today at 11 am in the Hotel Oro Verde of Guayaquil, journalist Emilio Palacio gave a press conference to inform about the latest events regarding the conflict established by the Ecuadorian president against him.
Palacio pointed out that he “will accuse the responsible for the deaths of September 30,” and revealed that he has received several death threats. However, Palacio added that if he “disappears” the evidence will be presented to the whole country.
The journalist declared himself in a State of Helplessness since the judge Monica Encalada, the one in charge of his case, has not allowed him to present his evidence. On July 19, Palacio will have a hearing which he says will be the “same method that was applied to Coronel Rolando Tapia.”
On March 22 of 2011 president Correa set a civil lawsue against El Universo, its director Carlos Perez Barriga, and its editor of the Opinion column, Emilio Palacio, for an alleged ulterior responsability.
The president demanded a compensation of 80 million dollars an imprisonment of three years for Perez and Palacio by the article called “No to the lies” (published on February 6 of 2011). (AV)
