Episcopal Conference clarifies that José Tuárez is prohibited from exercising as a priest
Ecuadornews:

The director of Catholic Radio, Father José Barranco, has read this morning a “clarifying note” from the Episcopal Conference, which reported that the Dominican priest José Carlos Tuárez, current president of the Council of Citizen Participation, “is prohibited to exercise the priestly ministry, as well as the use of religious habit, in accordance with the current norms of the Church, while exercising a public or political activity. “
The statement adds that “for public opinion and the discernment of the faithful, every act or declaration of José Carlos Tuárez is under his responsibility and is not considered as a position of the Church.”
Tuárez, who on June 11 was elected president of the CPCCS, arrived at the Council after obtaining 7% of the votes in the March elections. His candidacy was qualified by the National Electoral Council (CNE), despite the fact that in January 2019 the Dominican Dominican Preachers Order of the parish of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, recalled that according to Canon Law, priests are prohibited from holding public office , and announced that Tuárez had been suspended for disobedience.
