Erco Workers End its Strife
After two months of strike the employees of factory Continental Tire Andina (ERCO), city of Cuenca, decided to put an end to the civil strike that started on July 7.
During the morning the demonstrators decided to end it, and by 16:00 of today they are going to give back the facilities of the factory to the members of the Union Workers.
Patricio Ortiz, legal representative of the Company Committee, explained that the negotiations with the Ministry of Working Relations in Quito went well. The executives and workers analyzed seven points of the Transactional Bill were they discussed salary increment of 10,5% for March 2011, besides the payment of $1700 to each worker this also includes payments of 77 days of strike. The Court of Mediation and Arbitration settled this.
The social benefits established by the Collective Agreement will increase by 8%. The payment of the $1,700 will be done this Thursday while the 4 of October the remaining salary will be given.
Tomorrow, Friday 24 the factory will start operating again at 6:00 a.m. Employees are happy with the results of the strike.
