Faith Processions were held in Guayaquil and Quito during Good Friday

IN GUAYAQUIL: PROCESSION TO THE OF CHRIST OF COMFORT

This morning, since 07:00 am (GMT) faithful Catholics in Guayaquil, Ecuador recalled the Passion and death of Christ. Under the heat of the sun thousands of believers started their walk from their sanctuary Cristo del Consuelo to arrive past 11:30 to the church of Espiritu Santo.

The main requests of the Catholics were good health and the increase of faith in God and Christ. Several other cities in the Guayas province performed their own walks, in Nobol a congregation of 600 participated in the procession.

The walk was accompanied with chants and prayers as a figure of Christ in the cross was carried through the streets of Guayaquil.

IN QUITO: JESUS OF ​​THE GREAT POWER

Around 3 000 people participated in the Holy Friday procession in Quito. The pilgrimage began at 10:00 in Plaza de San Francisco, Quito’s historic center, with the output of the cucuruchos (characters dressed in purple that walk along Jesus in the living representation of  His passsion). At noon the image of Jesus del Gran Poder – Jesus of the Great Power – appeard amid the crowd.

Some participants carried large wooden crosses, nettle, cactus, they used heavy chains tied to their feet and took pictures of saints in their hands. The procession wound through several pathways, such as American Avenue to Calle José Riofrio. (AV)
