Family and friends gave the last goodbye to Galo Roggiero

Yesterday morning, relatives and closer friends said goodbye to the president of the Ecuadorian Soccer Federation and also Barcelona Sporting Club former president, Galo Roggiero. The Requiem Mass was conducted by Father Michel Charbonneau, coordinator of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Souls of the cemetery Parque de la Paz,

The burial gathered  several personalities from politics and sports as Leopoldo (Polo) Baquerizo, Hugo Encalada , Antonio Noboa , Ferdinand Hidalgo, honorary member of FIFA and Omar Quintana , former president of Emelec.

In life, Roggiero was deputy for the province of Guayas by the Christian Social Party (PSC ). He served as an officer of Customs under the mandate of President Jose María Velasco Ibarra; Secretary of the Governor of Guayas, Benjamin Rosales and Agriculture Minister of Jaime Nebot Velasco. He was president of Barcelona (1967-1970, 1986 and 2006-2007,) with whom he won four national titles . He chaired the Ecuadorian Soccer Federation between 1994 and 1998. He was also a member of the Junior Competitions Committee of FIFA, CONMEBOL leader and chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 1993 Copa America Ecuador.

Roggiero, 78, died on Tuesday, December 31 at 11:30, in the Kennedy Clinic in Guayaquil, victim of pneumonia. Roggiero was admitted to the Clinic on  December 8, after a fire in his apartment.
