Famous musicians ask for the release of the Pussy Riot
Amnesty International reported that around 100 famous musicians have requested the release of the members of the Russian punk group Pussy Riot, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 23 years old, and Maria Alekhina, 25, who in August of 2012, were sentenced to two years in prison for performing a punk protest against President Vladimir Putin in the main Cathedral of Moscow
According to Amnesty, Adele, U2, Madonna, Yoko Ono, Radiohead, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Ke$ha, Sir Paul McCartney and Sting, are some of the artists who have put their signature in an open letter that was created by the open Group.
In the document, the musicians expressed that the impact of the “terribly unfair (the Pussy Riot) trial and imprisonment was widely spread, especially among his fellow artists, musicians and citizens around the world”.
In the course of this week, hearings for both young women are expected, to review the appeal for probation.
