One of the reasons why the fire was so uncontrollable was because of the fragility of buildings, mostly of them made of wood or mixed construction.
Among the affected stores are a bookstore and stationery, a fabrics store, El Dolarazo store, a pharmacy, a law firm, and about 50 smaller businesses. The International Bank agency said that information and assets of their customers and users were safe (and today would attend in the terminal window of Petroecuador.)
In total 290 policemen and an equal number of soldiers arrived at the scene to control the order. Firemen from Quinindé, Quito and Santo Domingo came in solidarity to support the tasks of extinguish the fire. During the fire, looting and theft occurred.
