Fire in Quito Reaches Urban Zones
The intense forest fire originated in the area of San Luis at Puembo, Quito, reaches its ninth day of injury, this time reaching urban areas of the capital.
Yesterday in the afternoon, the people of the Zambiza parish got despaired when they witnessed how the fire burned two houses, an abandoned cabin and the Bumba Toquilla Refuge, near the La Playita neighborhood.
Residents of the parish, including children, pregnant women and older adults, combined to remove the gas tanks of the houses with the help of firefighters, to prevent explosions.
Extinguish the blaze became nearly impossible because the Zambiza water supply was poor, “It took us 20 to 25 minutes to get there and back with the water,” said Vicente Nilquinga, head of the Emmap tankers.
Finally, approximately at 16:00 yesterday, the threat of fire near homes decreased, but now the threat of fire is smoldering near the rural Nayon parish. (MZ)
