First Female Pilot of The Ecuadorian Armed Forces

This Friday, October 1st, Sublieutenant Rosy Katherine Granja Benítez will become the first female pilot of Ecuador. She will pilot airplanes from Naval Aviation. She aspires to especialize on flying helicopters.

The graduation of the first pilot will take place on Friday, October 1st, 2010 at 15h00 at the Manta Naval Air Station. She belongs to the XVIII Class of Elementary School of the Marine, and will be a part of the quota of officers and crew to work on the vigilance, protection and defense of Maritime Sovereignty.

The Ecuadorian Army started to allow women back in 2002. The first female officer of the Army, who died on September 19th, 2010, graduated in 2006 and her proficiency was sailing ships. In 2007, the first Female Marine graduated.
