Galo Lara loses his Assemblyman Immunity
Posted On 02 Dec 2011
The National Assembly made the lifting of parliamentary immunity of Assembly Galo Lara (Sociedad Patriotica Party) at the request of the National Court of Justice (CNJ) to start the criminal case for libel against President Rafael Correa filed on Oct. 15.
The request was forwarded to the Assembly speaker, Fernando Cordero (Alianza Pais Party), on November 10th and so far it has not been processed.
The incident happened when Lara said that president “directs and protects corruption” from Carondelet in an interview on TV Channel RTU.
On the other hand, Lara said Assemblyman “I affirm. Correa conceits, protects and manages the corruption from Carondelet” and accused Cordero of ‘hiding’ the order to make possible the trial against Correa.
