German Citizen Arrested in Baltra for Trying to Steal four Iguanas

This morning began with the hearing of German citizen identified as Dirk B., who was arrested last Sunday at the airport of Baltra in the Galapagos Islands, after trying to get out of the country with four land iguanas on his luggage.

Currently, the European tourist is prisoner on the island, until further order of a judge who ruled against the defendant pre-trial detention, which is liable to a term of one to three years in prison if convicted of environmental crimes, said park in a statement.

Today the Park Department said, the species called Conoluphus Subcristatus is listed as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
