Government rejects presentation of political trial against President Guillermo Lasso
After learning of the formal presentation of the impeachment request against President Guillermo Lasso in the National Assembly, the Communications Secretariat issued a statement in which it “categorically rejects the request presented by 59 legislators.”

Government rejects presentation of political trial against President Guillermo Lasso.
“This demand totally lacks political and legal elements that allow sustaining a process against the President,” the letter reads. It adds that its only objective is to “attack the institutionality of the Ecuadorian State and democracy itself.”
For these reasons, “this impeachment trial is not an act of control but one more attempt to destabilize the many that the Assembly has had in less than 2 years.”
For his part, the head of the Bancada del Acuerdo Nacional (BAN), Juan Fernando Flores, described the event as a “political show” by some legislators from Unes, Pachakutik and PSC. “This is another step in the destabilization process because they come back with a fable. There is no evidence,” he stressed.
