Greek Citizenship involved in money laundering since 2003
Raymond Baker, head of the nongovernmental organization (NGO) Global Financial Integrety said that in Greece, Greek citizens abroad have deposited $ 261,000 ‘000 .000 from illegal activities, from funds to evade taxes the proceeds of criminal acts or from corruption.
Baker said the German weekly Der Spiegel who estimates that this large amount of money out of Greece between 2003 and 2011, in which it stresses that the money gets to “accounts in tax havens around the world.” It also said that illegal money entered in Greece in 2010 and 2011 reached nearly 200,000 million.
The head of the NGO, who is dedicated to investigating international money flows, explains that “in a recession is increasingly difficult for private individuals and businesses to access credit,” which causes the illegal movement of money.
“(…) A crisis is ideal for money laundering. Purchasing real property is cheap and it is expected that in 10 or 15 years to rise in value. Investors criminals work longer term than traditional,” says Baker.
