Guayaquil prepares to celebrate the Virgin of Guadalupe, patroness of the Ecuadorian migrants
Posted On 10 Dec 2012
On Wednesday December 12, Guayaquil will pay tribute to the Virgin of Guadalupe, considered patroness of the Ecuadorian migrants, through a Mass which will be officiate by the Archbishop of Guayaquil, Mgr. Antonio Arregui, in the Cathedral, at 19:00.
Father Romulo Aguilar, rector of the cathedral, said that the Guadalupe Virgin, who is daily gaining adherents in Ecuador, is possibly native from Spain where before the time of the conquest had a sanctuary in her honor, which still stands.
Father Aguilar said the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, located in the Cathedral, is a replica of the original that was sent by the Diocese of the Department of Durango (Mexico), in October 2007.
