El convenio interinstitucional firmado por Aquiles Alvarez y el ministro del Interior, Juan Zapata, busca coordinar y gestionar acciones para reforzar la seguridad de Guayaquil.
The inter-institutional agreement aims to reinforce the security of Guayaquil. The mayor Aquiles Alvarez and the Minister of the Interior, Juan Zapata, signed an agreement, which seeks to coordinate and manage actions against the crime wave and criminal violence in the city.
The authorities signed the agreement on the morning of May 23, 2023, at the Guayaquil Municipal Palace.
Alvarez said that, with the private company, he obtained accommodation for 1,900 newly graduated police officers who will arrive in the city on June 9.
In addition, as part of the agreement, the municipality will donate land for the first police training station in Guayaquil, added the mayor.
Meanwhile, this Wednesday, May 24, the first Municipal Security Council will be held at the Citizen Security Corporation.
The equipment of the new police officers is in question. The Minister of the Interior, Juan Zapata, maintained that the police have ammunition.
But until next week they plan to award a contract for USD 36 million for the purchase of bulletproof vests.
Partial deliveries are expected in 30 days, after meeting the company’s 60-day award deadlines, according to Zapata.
The governor of Guayas, Francesco Tabacchi, indicated that 2,850 policemen will arrive in the province on June 9.
Of these, more than 1,900 will be assigned to the metropolitan district of Guayaquil (which integrates Zone 8 with Durán and Samborondón) and 900 for the cantons of Guayas (Zone 5).
“The municipality is going to help with accommodation for almost 2,000 police officers who will arrive in the city on June 9. And he committed a barracks for a training school. That is important, joining forces,” Tabacchi said.
