High Doses of Radiation Affect Three Employees at Fukushima Nuclear Plant
Posted On 24 Mar 2011
According to reports from the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency in Japan (NISA), three workers at the Fukushima nuclear power plant received high radiation doses. The workers were exposed to a radioactivity of 170 to 180 millisievert, the deputy director of NISA, Hidehiko Nishiyama said. Two of them, he added, were hospitalized with burns on their legs.
Yukio Edano, the Japanese government spokesman, told reporters that the three workers had put their legs in water contaminated with radioactivity. Edano said that instructions “to avoid making the same mistake” will be given to other workers.
There have been 17 plant operators affected by being exposed to radiation above 100 millisievert to date, according to the Kyodo news agency.
