Hollande Assumed French Presidency Today
The socialist François Hollande began today his presidential period in France with promises to of implementing measures that will stimulate the economy. The new chief of state will debate its proposals with the German Foreign minister, Angela Merkel.
Hollande and Merkel will meet this afternoon in Berlin, prior to this Hollande will announce the name of their Prime Minister. The new president assumed his office at 08:00 (GMT) when the president of the Constitutional Council, Jean-Louis Debré informed about the power transfer.
“From this moment you represent France, you symbolize the Republic and its values, you represent the French people,” said Debré in a modest ceremony in the Elysium.
Hollande first words as president addressed the nation with a reconciliation tone; he also commented that the debt inherited will not be easy to overcome. (AV)
